Overview
Bottle gourd (lauki) is a vigorous warm-season cucurbit grown for its tender bottle- or cylinder-shaped fruit. Trained over a pandal or trellis it crops heavily over a long period.
Like all cucurbits its main pest is the melon fruit fly; steady moisture and good vine training keep fruit clean and straight.

Bottle gourd needs warm weather (about 25–32 °C) and full sun. It is frost-sensitive; very high heat increases male flowers and lowers set.
