Importing hybrid vegetable seed from India is straightforward once you know the order of steps. This guide walks distributors and importers through the process with Farmson Biotech, from the first enquiry to seed arriving at your warehouse.
1. Check what your country needs
Most countries require an import permit from their national plant protection organisation, listing the crops and any additional declarations for the phytosanitary certificate. Apply for it first and send us a copy, so the certificate is issued to match it exactly.
2. Send your enquiry
Tell us the crops and varieties, quantities, pack sizes, your sowing season and your destination. If you are unsure which varieties suit your region, our agronomists will recommend them. See the page for your country for the crops we supply there.
3. Receive a quotation
We quote in US dollars on the Incoterm you prefer: EXW Ankleshwar, FOB Indian port or airport, CFR / CPT or CIF / CIP to your destination. The dispatch date is confirmed in the quotation.
4. Pay the advance
Payment is either 100% advance by bank transfer (TT), or 50% advance by TT with the balance paid before dispatch.
5. Lot testing, packing and documents
Your seed comes from a lot tested in our in-house lab and by a private accredited laboratory, released only when it meets Indian Minimum Seed Certification Standards. We prepare the phytosanitary certificate with any additional declarations, the certificate of origin, and fumigation and insurance when needed. Read more on seed quality and lot traceability.
6. Shipping
Seed travels by air cargo, by courier for samples and small orders, by sea freight for large volumes, or through your own nominated forwarder. The full document set is sent to you in advance for customs clearance.
Selling under your own brand?
We pack under your label from 21,000 pouches or 11,000 tins. See private label vegetable seeds, or contract seed production if you have your own parent lines.
